Tabor India Fund

In April 2009, we were delighted to launch the
Tabor India Fund. This was in direct response
to the needs of Sr Celine Menezes, one of our
Carmelite Missionary sisters who has spent the
last ten years ‘lifting’ the lives of thousands of the
slum-dwellers of Bangalore.
These people are classed as ‘untouchables’ within Indian society
and live in abject poverty but, with Sr Celine’s tireless devotion
and practical skills, the children are now being fed and educated
and their parents are being empowered and supported to find
work, to make basic improvements to their huts and tents and
to pay for medical care.
During Jennifer Holden’s recent sabbatical in India, she spent
time in the slums with Sr Celine and was deeply touched by
the graciousness and generosity of the slum-dwellers and by Sr
Celine’s love for them. Jennifer and Sr Celine became friends
and, on Jennifer’s return, we decided to join her in launching
the Tabor India Fund to support Sr Celine’s very special work.
Sr Celine has now been asked to ‘lift’ the lives of many more
slum-dwellers in Bangalore and your continued support will
enable her to educate and train up women from the slums to
work alongside her in bringing hope and empowerment to the
city’s ‘untouchables’.
